LuWSI’s Principles
LuWSI Partners have co-developed and agreed to nine fundamental principles that the initiative should adhere to, which are:
- Human rights: the initiative commits to respecting, protecting and ensuring the fulfilment of the fundamental rights of individuals and communities, especially the poor, vulnerable and marginalised
- Sustainable impacts: We strive to work strategically and effectively for the highest and most sustainable impacts on water security.
- Shared benefits: The outcomes of our partnerships benefit society, particularly its poorest and most vulnerable members, while enabling businesses to create value through sustainable operations.
- High integrity: We aspire to the highest integrity standards, ensuring transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, including gender mainstreaming.
- Good water governance: We support the development and implementation of public policy with the mandated authorities, while encouraging multi-stakeholder engagement and participation in water management.
- Commitment to collaboration: We encourage innovative multi-stakeholder partnership approaches and tools tailored to local needs to help overcome traditional barriers to action in the water sector.
- Open learning: We openly share our lessons, information, practices and tools, to benefit and learn from others.
- Mutual respect and adaptability: We respect each other’s backgrounds, experience and perspectives, and strive to adapt our communications and expectations to suit the diversity of stakeholders involved in the Initiative.
- Ecological integrity: We recognize that healthy ecosystems are fundamental for water security and therefore must be protected from the impacts of climatic and anthropologic changes.
